APOTROPAIA: Protection Magic for Turbulent Times (Online workshop)

Pam will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this class to: Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC)

Protection magic encompasses a vast body of techniques including spellcraft, rituals, wardings, circle castings, and the use of intentional adornment, amulets, and charms. It can be as subtle as drawing a secret sigil or as overt as public ceremonies that conjure safety, strength, and liberation. From the Greek word “apotrépein” meaning “to turn away from” or “avert,” apotropaic magic can be employed whenever one wishes to protect oneself and one’s community from harm.

This collective moment is a time of tumult and transformation which calls upon each of us to defend our friends, family members, neighbors, beloved strangers, and our courageous selves. As we resist oppression and lean into systems of mutual aid and communal care, how can magic *also* help fortify us? Which metaphysical techniques can best strengthen protective forcefields around our bodies, our homes, and our neighborhoods? Are some forms of witchcraft more ethical than others when it comes to averting evil and keeping harm at bay?

In this richly illustrated online presentation, world-renowned witchcraft expert Pam Grossman will explore a wide variety of ways in which one can employ apotropaic magic to shield the vulnerable, safeguard precious people and spaces, and thwart pernicious power. Incorporating art, ritual, witchcraft, and myth, Pam will delve deeply into protective magic practices that help conjure safety, security, and supernatural support.

Students of all levels are welcome, from the curious novice to the advanced occultist.
